GraycatTunes

Privacy Policy

Short version

GraycatTunes is a local-first music player. It requires no account, includes no advertising, analytics, tracking, crash reporting, or third-party telemetry, and does not collect or sell personal information.

Music files and library access

The app accesses only audio files and folders you select, drag into the app, or open through macOS. Files remain in their original locations; GraycatTunes does not copy, move, or upload your music.

GraycatTunes runs in the App Sandbox and uses user-selected read-only file access and security-scoped bookmarks. This lets the app read music only after you authorize it and revisit chosen items later.

Local storage

The library index, file bookmarks, artwork cache, playlists, Loved items, ratings, play counts, equalizer presets, output-device choice, and other playback preferences are stored in the app's sandbox on this Mac. Removing the app's data deletes those local records but does not delete the original music files.

Files in iCloud Drive

If music you select is in your own iCloud Drive, GraycatTunes reads it like any other user-selected file. When a file is not downloaded, the app asks macOS to download it only after you request that action. Apple and your Apple account handle the iCloud transfer; the app never uploads the content.

Network access

The app makes no network requests of its own. The direct-download edition currently contains no automatic updater; checking for a new release and downloading it requires you to visit graycat.app in a browser. Website requests are covered separately by the website privacy notice and add no statistics to the app.

Apple privacy manifest

The app's privacy manifest declares no collected data and no tracking. It lists preferences and file timestamps as required-reason APIs, used to save local settings and detect changes to user-authorized music files.
