Common questions

Are file contents uploaded?

No. The app does not upload document content or send it to an online service. The direct edition contacts only graycat.app and downloads.graycat.app to check for and download updates; update requests contain no document content. Editing, search, comparison, conversion, and recovery are performed locally on your Mac.

Why does a file sometimes look garbled?

Plain-text files do not always identify their encoding. Use Reopen with Encoding to choose UTF-8, UTF-16, GB18030, Big5, or Shift-JIS manually, and save only after the text displays correctly.

Why is a large file read-only?

Files above the safe editing threshold open as read-only previews. This protects responsiveness and prevents an incomplete view from being written over the original file.

Can I undo a folder-wide replacement?

Folder replacement shows a preview and creates a local backup first. Use the matching restore control if needed, and keep the backup until you have checked the result.
